Basic Pesticide Training

The purpose of this training is to provide the candidate applicator or operator with a working knowledge, at a minimum, of the following information.

The content of the Basic Pesticide Training Course is to include at a minimum:

  • Proper use of application equipment;

  • Hazards that may be involved in applying pesticides;
  • Instructions for mixing pesticides used in particular circumstances;
  • Protective clothing & safety equipment required during the handling & application of pesticides;
  • General precautions to be followed in the disposal of containers, as well as the cleaning and decontamination of equipment;
  • Applicable State/Federal pesticide laws & regulations;
  • Understand /correctly interpret label and labeling information;
  • Understand principles of Integrated Pest Management.

PA Dept. of Ag Credits - CORE - 6

General & Household Pest Control

This is a one-day 6-hour class.  This class is designed to be used in lieu of 40 hrs of on-the training for the NJDEP Category 7A License.  In addition, you must also take the Basic Pesticide Training Course for CORE Certification to be certified.

Termites & Other Wood Destroying Insects

This is a two-day 12-hour class.  This class is designed to be used in lieu of 40 hrs of on-the-job training. Commercial applicator or operator candidates are required to complete 40 hours of on-the-job training, if available.

The content of the Category 7B Training Course is to include at a minimum:

  • State Pesticide Regulations
  • Pesticide Toxicity
  • Hazards of Pesticide Use
  • Subterranean Termites
  • Pest Management and Control
  • Pesticide Application Equipment and Techniques
  • Dry wood Termites, Formosan Termites

A Dept of Ag. Credits (Must Attend both Days) - CORE - 6 / Cat 11- Household/Health Related - 3  / Cat 12 - Wood Destroying Pests - 10 / Cat 23 - Park/School Pest Control - 3

Mosquito & Tick Pest Control

This is a one-day 6-hour class.   In addition, you must also take the Basic Pesticide Training Class to be NJDEP certified.

PA Dept of Ag. Credits - CORE - 1 / Cat 16 - Public Health-Invertebrate Research - 8 / Cat 23 - Park/School Pest Control - 8

IPM - Intergrated Pest Management in Schools

This category is required for ANY pesticide applicator that makes pesticide applications in schools or on school property, for New Jersey schools below the college level.  ‘Schools below college level’ is meant to include all pre-schools and early childhood learning centers.

Category 13 is required for all pesticide applicators hired by schools to perform pest control services.  Commercial Mosquito Control and Right-of-Way applicators (not hired by the school) are exempt for work performed on school property during the normal course of their work, but will have other notification responsibilities to schools.
